Everything you need to know about auditioning at the ICMT

Audition requirements

To be accepted on our musical theatre courses, students must audition first. If you need any further information, please don't hesitate to contact us at info@theicmt.com.

Singing

You will need to prepare 2 contrasting songs of your choice (1 ideally musical theatre). You should bring sheet music with you to the audition, and each song should last no longer than 2 minutes. The panel will take into consideration: acting-through-song, range, tone, interpretation, technique and musicality.

Acting

You will need to prepare a monologue of your choice that is no longer than 3 minutes. The panel will take into consideration: truth, text connection and understanding, characterisation, vocal clarity, projection, and presentation.

Dance

You will take part in a group jazz class led by a member of our faculty. You will learn a routine and work through techniques to demonstrate technique, musicality, spatial awareness, timing, style, and presentation.

Interview

Applicants will undergo a short interview with a senior member of the ICMT team. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to tell us why you would make a great ICMT student.

Overseas applicants

If you are applying from overseas you will be invited to audition via video, and you will need to record videos for each of the requirements outlined above. For dance, you will be sent a jazz routine to learn and record.

Feedback and Outcome

All applicants will be contacted via phone with the result of their audition. You will also receive personalised feedback.

Dates

We hold in-person auditions every month, starting in December and finishing in July. You can choose your audition date on the application form.
